The announcement was made this morning (April 21), Google says This week Gemini in Home is getting a highly requested feature that helps refine its conversational aspect. The primary goal of this feature is to keep the conversation going, as this feature is aptly named “Continued Conversation.” The AI retains more “context” with this update. Google says that, unlike the old Assistant (goodbye, Assistant), Gemini “remembers” your conversation threads for better follow-up Q&A.
Users will notice that saying “Hey Google” and giving their initial request will cause Gemini’s microphones to open for a few seconds. Additionally, the lights on your smart home devices will pulsate. This is that extended conversation context window, so Gemini is ready for any additional requests.

The post says that Continuous Chat is available to everyone in the house, including guests. Additionally, it has received multilingual support, as of this week in the US as well as other regions
Gemini is also provided with “side-talk” detection. Google says this helps AI better distinguish between a domestic conversation and a genuine request for it. Users can find and activate a persistent conversation in the following steps: Home Settings > Gemini for Home Voice Assistant > Continuous Conversations.
Gemini likes to talk
Better understanding user requests has been a strong focus for Google recently. Earlier update helped Make AI feel a little less robotic. Google removed the need for specific commands, as Gemini is reportedly able to understand “casual phrases”. Now, you should not repeat yourself constantly because Gemini may not understand you. This update also includes its device detection, so there should be no mixing of lamps and lights.
Last week’s update saw Gemini becoming a better home DJ. AI can understand your favorite songs and playlists and play them when you ask. For busy households, Gemini’s task management capabilities go up a notch for editing lists and completing “complex, multi-step” tasks.
