Iran’s UN envoy indicated on Tuesday that new talks with the United States could take place only if Washington lifts its naval blockade of Iranian ports.
Speaking at UN headquarters in New York, Iran’s permanent representative to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, said he hoped diplomacy would resume once conditions changed.
“As soon as Washington ends the naval blockade, I think the next round of talks will be held in Islamabad,” he told reporters, according to Iranian state media IRNA.
The comments come at a time of continued uncertainty over the future of the conflict, despite US President Donald Trump announcing a temporary ceasefire extension.
While Trump said the ceasefire would remain in place until Iran submits a proposal to permanently end the war, he also made it clear that the US blockade would continue.
Pakistan was expected to host a fresh round of discussions between the two sides, but progress has stalled amid ongoing tensions and changing situations.
