(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump said Wednesday that ongoing sanctions in the Strait of Hormuz are causing severe financial losses to Iran, estimating the Islamic Republic is losing about $500 million per day.
In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Tehran is “starved for cash” and eager to reopen vital shipping lanes. He said internal pressure is increasing, with reports of military and police forces complaining of unpaid salaries.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, and any disruption has an immediate impact on global energy markets.
Trump stressed that despite Iran’s public stance, its leadership is looking for a way to restore access to the waterway while maintaining lip service. He suggested that reopening the strait without a comprehensive agreement would undermine ongoing negotiations.
The President also confirmed that the United States would maintain its naval blockade, extending the temporary ceasefire. According to Trump, the decision was taken after support from Pakistani leaders, including Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who requested additional time from Iran to present a unified resolution.
The current standoff follows coordinated US and Israeli strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure on February 28, which has significantly heightened tensions in the region.
As negotiations remain uncertain, the economic and strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz is placing deep pressure on all parties involved.
