Jamie-Lynn Sigler is opening up about her first “toxic and complicated” marriage that required her to imagine her own death to get rid of it.
the How I Met Your Mother The alum, who married her former finance manager AJ DiScala at the age of 22, recalled that her three-year marriage with her manager was “devastating”, leaving her on the brink of help and support.
​Recently during a conversation US Weekly, She was asked if she had seen the death fantasy she had at the time, as she reveals in her new memoir. Sigler responded, “I didn’t revisit that moment until I wrote it. It wasn’t even really about suicide. It was a cry for help. I needed someone to know how scared and overwhelmed I was.”
the divorce invitation The actress further explained that if she had stayed in the marriage for a few more years, she might not have “survived”.
​”Marriage at 20 is still a marriage. I needed a lot of proof to leave. When I looked at his phone, I knew something suspicious was going on. All women feel the same way,” she continued, “I wanted to share this not to bash him, but for other women. I felt like such a failure all the time, but I came to understand that if I stayed in that marriage I wouldn’t survive much longer. I think he also knew this.”
​She revealed that at the time, she desperately needed her ex-husband and DiScala took advantage of it.
​”I needed her so badly at the time, so I couldn’t be like, ‘What were you thinking?’
​”I knew what I wanted, and he provided a lot for me. Can I look back and see a young girl possibly being taken advantage of? Yes, but I also don’t think she really thought that was what was happening.”
Finally, she expressed her view that they were both “trapped for a ride”.
