    And based on the numbers, those who ate the most ultra-processed foods had a much higher risk of heart disease. As senior study author, Charles H. Heinekens, MD, explains in a news release, “Our study findings, based on a large, nationally representative sample of 4,787 US adults, show that those with the highest intake of UPF had a statistically significant and clinically significant 47% higher risk of cardiovascular disease.”
