In a big step, OpenAI has officially announced its latest AI model, GPT-5.5, which the company describes as one of its smartest and most innovative models to date.
The main objective behind this release is the enhanced capabilities of the algorithms in various fields. According to Greg Brockman, co-founder and president of OpenAI, this represents an important step toward building OpenAI’s “super applications”.
During a conversation with reporters, Brockman shared his comment that the new model represents a huge leap towards technological progress, especially in agentic and intuitive computing. GPT-5.5 is designed for versatility across a variety of areas, including fundamental enterprise areas such as agentic coding and knowledge management—areas that remain highly innovative.
OpenAI explained that the model’s performance exceeded all previous benchmarks, making it highly competitive against rival models from Google and Anthropic.
Brockman said, “This model is a real step toward the kind of computing we expect to see in the future — but it’s a step, and we expect to see much more in the future.” “It’s a faster, faster thinker for fewer tokens than something like 5.4. So, it means there’s more frontier AI available to businesses and consumers, which is part of our goal.”
The rivalry between OpenAI and Anthropic continues to grow with the launch of GPT-5.5, a model designed to compete with Anthropic’s recently released cybersecurity tool, Mythos.

Technical staff member Mia Glasses said OpenAI has refined a sustainable approach to safely deploying models to ensure they are used responsibly for cybersecurity tasks. Chief Research Officer Mark Chen highlighted that GPT-5.5 shows meaningful benefits in scientific and technological research.
This model is much better at handling computer-based work and navigating specialized workflows than its predecessors. OpenAI particularly focused on the models’ potential to aid in drug discovery, an area of high interest for the tech and pharmaceutical industries.
The model is being deployed to Chat Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users within GPT, while GPT-5.5 Pro will be accessible to Pro, Business and Enterprise customers.
