US President Donald Trump was seen with his eyes closed during the White House Healthcare Affordability event on Thursday.
The video of the president “nodding off” sparked mockery online but a review of the footage found no confirmed evidence that Trump was actually sleeping.
As Regeneron CEO Leonard Schleifer discussed a list of diseases that still have no cure, including Alzheimer’s, a sleepy Trump nodded.
Sharing the video on Twitter, the president’s rival, California Governor Gavin Newsom, claimed Trump was “asleep at the wheel.”
As soon as the president’s video circulated online, several social media accounts began sharing fabricated photos that appeared to depict Trump sleeping at his desk.
However, his supporters defended the President by claiming that even though Trump had closed his eyes briefly, claims that the President had fallen asleep were greatly exaggerated.
