Brazil and Chelsea forward Estevao’s World Cup hopes are in doubt after it was confirmed he will miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.
Chelsea’s interim coach Callum Macfarlane gave no timeframe for Estevao’s recovery from the injury he sustained in the first half of last week’s game against Manchester United.

“Unfortunately Estevao will not be playing for us this season because he will be out for a while. It’s really unfortunate, especially for someone so young and so talented,” McFarlane said Friday.
“I’m sure he has full hopes that he can win the World Cup, but I don’t know about that.”
The tournament begins on June 11, with Brazil’s first match on June 13 against Morocco at the New York/New Jersey Stadium.
The 19-year-old Estevao was taken off after 16 minutes of the 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge and missed the 3-0 defeat at Brighton on Tuesday.
Former coach Liam Rosenior revealed last week that the teenager was crying after being taken off. Recovery from hamstring injuries can take several weeks, or in the most severe cases, months.
Estevao joined Chelsea from Palmeiras last year and has scored eight goals this season. He was expected to be part of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico after scoring five times in his last six international appearances.
His injury is the latest blow for Brazil, who will be without Real Madrid winger Rodrigo due to a torn ACL and meniscus in his right knee.
Chelsea will play Leeds in the FA Cup semi-finals on Sunday. Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro could both be contenders to play as they continue to recover from injuries.
