John Mayer recently opened up about the criticism of his song, waiting on the World to Change, Attracted from all walks of life.
For those unaware, waiting on the World to Change includes one of their songs continuityWhich he released in 2006. The song addresses the sense of apathy, disillusionment, and helplessness felt by his generation in relation to political corruption, media bias, and war.
On April 17, Mayer performed at the inaugural concert of HISTORYTalks 2026 in Philadelphia to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. The event was attended by all former Presidents of the United States, including Jill Biden, Hillary Clinton, and Michelle Obama, as well as actress Nicole Kidman and other top entertainers.
The 48-year-old American singer-songwriter and guitarist was requested to play during a performance waiting on the World to Change. He replied, “It’s a good idea. Good and responsible. A lot of people thought it was passive. It was too passive.”
However, as soon as he started singing the song, Mayer noticed that the song could not touch the heartstrings due to its perceived passivity.
heavy things Starr explained why he wrote the song, “If your car broke down, or let’s say you got locked out of your car, and someone came up to you and said, ‘Why can’t you get in your car? What are you doing right now?'” he said. “And (you reply), ‘I’m waiting for AAA.'”
“Sometimes there are some people who say, ‘Why don’t you break the window and open the lock inside the car?’ Some people say, ‘Just wait for your roadside assistance.'”
“Theoretically, now, I wrote that song 20 years ago. The AAA hasn’t shown up,” Mayer quipped, taking a dig at government leaders for not taking action.
“John Mayer has a sharp comment on (the United States’) 250th anniversary,” John Mayer said, laughing.
