A beloved dog has been branded one of the ‘unluckiest’ in the world after being repeatedly returned to the kennel.

The T-rex has spent the last four years bouncing between rescue shelters through no fault of his own – and is once again looking for a permanent home.

The 11-year-old dog is described as a “lovable and gentle boy” who has experienced an extraordinary amount of bad luck throughout his life.

On TikTok, @candsavethedog said: “Volunteer favorite T-Rex has a heartbreaking story. This sweet and gentle 11-year-old boy has been in and out of the shelter multiple times since 2022 as his owner struggles with housing instability.

“Recently he was returned just before Christmas because the person said they had lost their habitat. The poor T-rex spent Christmas at the shelter, and has been waiting here ever since.

@candsavethedogs The volunteer’s favorite T-Rex has a heartwarming story. Recently it was turned away just before Christmas because the person said they had lost their accommodation. Poor T-Rex spent Christmas at the shelter, and has been waiting here ever since. Sheltering is hard for any dog, but it’s especially hard for seniors. The T-Rex recently had an eye infection and recovered, and we hate to think that he was stuck in a cold concrete cell during one of these rain storms. This guy is super sweet – he loves rolling on his back in the warm grass, soaking up all the pets from his volunteer friends, and he has done well with other dogs in play groups (slow introductions are always recommended). The T-Rex has a few bumps and some skin issues that could use some TLC. We’re hoping that someone who can give her the love, stability, and attention she needs in her golden years will watch this video and fall in love like we did! #Dog #senior dog #rescue dog #adoptdontshop #fyp ♬ Hurts, Now That You’re Gone – I Don’t Like Mirrors

The Los Angeles shelter in the US explained how the T-Rex has some bumps and skin issues and could do with some TLC.

She added: “This guy is so sweet – he loves rolling on his back in the warm grass, soaking up all the pets from his volunteer friends, and he has done well with other dogs in playgroup (slow introductions are always recommended).

“We’re hoping that someone who can give her the love, stability and attention she needs in her golden years will watch this video and fall in love like we did!” Commenting on his appeal to be rehomed, one user said: “Poor boy. I hope he finds a loving home.”

Another said, “He needs a loving home.”

A third said: “Love arms to hold her close to heart.”

Another person said: “OMG. He’s so cute. Let’s find his family.”

Dogs Trust has offered expert guidance on the most important steps new owners should take when welcoming a rescue dog into their home.

A statement said: “Although most puppies are calm and curious, adult dogs may become anxious when you come home.

“You may find that they hide at first and don’t want to interact with you. Don’t worry – this is absolutely normal. You should let them go at their own pace to help them relax.

“Let them have their time without interruptions and come to you when they’re ready. They can come over and look at you, sit close or drop a toy at your feet.

“Avoid any visitors in the home during this time and make sure it is quiet and calm, so they can calmly become familiar with their new surroundings.”
