When it comes to travelling, I always find myself subconsciously influenced by the style of the local set in whatever destination I visit. Still, when it comes to visiting Paris, I constantly feel like what I pack to wear when I’m out is inevitably more than in other fashion capitals.
Blame the fact that the French are known for being quite particular, or that the personal wardrobes of people living in the City of Lights are heralded as the pinnacle of chic, but without fail, I find myself following specific ways of dressing that take the surroundings into account. And it seems I’m not alone in this, Alexa Chung recently proved that she also follows this one very basic styling rule whenever she’s out on the town.
Taking to Instagram to share a carousel of her off-duty outfits from Paris Fashion Week, the model and ultimate fashion muse revealed that she follows suit by ditching trainers for more cute flat shoes when wearing jeans.
It’s a rare sight to see a Parisienne in a sporty silhouette, let alone wear this athletic footwear with sleek denim. So, when I saw Alexa wearing a pair of brown loafers to compliment her light blue jeans, I breathed a sigh of relief knowing I wasn’t the only one who had to adjust her sartorial sense a bit for this setting.
The look included wardrobe basics you’d find in any well-edited wardrobe, including a long line Trench coats, great cardigans and crisp white t-shirts. Although, this is Alexa we’re talking about, there’s always a subtle difference that makes this group extra attractive. For the occasion, it came down to the colors in which she presented these staples.
While her shoes look like any pair of trending gathered loafers, they were actually a rich-looking chocolate brown color that, courtesy of this lived-in shade, gave her outfit an effortless sense of nostalgia and coziness. The same applies to the wash of the jeans he chooses. Although Parisians have been wearing darker shades lately, the 42-year-old opted for a lighter hue, creating a feeling of brightness and ease.
With spring officially here, I would go so far as to say that this exact silhouette will be seen all the way from the top of Montmartre to Le Marais. And like anything in fashion, where the French go – or in this case, a Londoner in Paris – the rest of us follow. So, it will only be a matter of time before this exact formula starts emerging across the UK. Get a head start on the trend, and shop the best light blue jeans and brown loafers below.
