Joe Pfeifer pulled off a huge upset in the latest UFC results, defeating former champion Israel Adesanya by TKO at UFC Fight Night in Seattle, according to the original report.
Pifer won at 4:18 of the second round by hurting Adesanya with strikes, knocking him to the ground and forcing the referee to stop the fight.
After the bout, Pfeiffer spoke about personal struggles leading up to the fight: “I almost took my life a couple of weeks ago, but I found God.”
“I don’t like to cry, so I’ll keep it together. God restored me, he’s the only reason I’m here.”
The win is the biggest win of Pfeiffer’s career and is expected to move him up the middleweight rankings. He entered the fight ranked 14th, while Adesanya was ranked 4th.
After the fight, Adesanya remained defiant about his future: “You keep going – again and again and again and again,” he said.
“I’m not going to (expletive). You’ll never stop me. I may lose, but I’ll always be undefeated.”
In the co-main event, Alexa Grasso defeated Macy Barber with a first-round stoppage, ending Barber’s seven-fight win streak.
