One Redditor shared his feelings of losing the last chance in the H-1B lottery, but was picked up by US-based commenters who mocked the ‘entitlement’ of foreigners who think they have the right to stay in the US. The results of the first salary-based lottery were declared over the weekend and were completed by April 1 as companies will start filing petitions for selected candidates from April 1. The Redditor was devastated; He said colleagues were crying because it was the man’s last chance to stay in America. “My H1B was not approved again this year. It was my last chance and honestly, I am disappointed.” It still doesn’t feel real. There have been a lot of ups and downs in my life, but I have always worked hard and have managed to reach here. Because of this, I always consider myself a lucky person… but I guess that’s not the case in this case,” the post reads. “I don’t think I’ve ever cried like that before. I didn’t even know I was a person who could cry like that. To see my coworkers actually get so upset, even to see me cry, made it even harder for me. Honestly, it broke me.”“I’ve lived here for a long time, and it really feels like home. So yes, I feel very lost right now. But at the end of the day, it was a lottery. There was only so much I could control. (I’ll be honest, it’s hard not to feel bitter towards people who game the system. I really hope they face some consequences.) I guess what I’m trying to say is, I Not letting myself get overwhelmed and focusing on what I can control is how I’ve come this far. Gotta believe I’ll find a way to move forward again,” the person wrote. Many H-1B candidates shared similar stories of having to leave the US now that they were not selected in the FY 2027 lottery. USCIS has announced the conclusion of the lottery but has not yet disclosed the number of registrations they received, number of candidates selected, etc.
‘My sympathies to all Americans’
The Reddit post became a laughingstock on X as right-wing handles mocked people’s ‘H-1B loss’. “Your sympathy goes out to the Americans who are losing their jobs or being denied jobs in my country because of the work visas given to these foreigners. They are guests here and have no right to immigrate and have no reason to expect that they would be able to do so if they came here on student visas or other ‘temporary visas’. None. The entitlement in this post is serious. Read and cry,” one wrote while sharing the Reddit post.
