Canada is one step closer Passing “hate crime” laws that would make it illegal to express historic Christian beliefs. And in fact, it would make it illegal to quote parts of the Bible!
The “Combating Hate Act” (or Bill C-9), which has just passed the Senate of Canada, “proposes new Criminal Code offences, including an offense that would make it a crime to deliberately incite hatred against publicly identifiable groups by using certain hate or terrorism-related symbols.” and bill especially takes out Protection for religious freedom:
The Liberals (one of Canada’s political parties) gained support from the Bloc (the other party) by including a clause that would remove the religious exemption from Canada’s hate speech laws.
The Criminal Code currently includes an exemption for hate speech, “if, in good faith, the person has expressed or attempted to establish by argument an opinion on a religious subject or an opinion based on belief in a religious text.”
This is all part of the spiritual warfare going on around us as Satan attempts to silence Christians.
Of course, they’re claiming this won’t “criminalize belief,” but we’ve seen what’s happened in Europe (and what’s already happened in Canada) when “hate crime” laws are passed. Christians are particularly targeted for their beliefs regarding gender, marriage, and the sanctity of human life. Every thinking person knows that this change to the Criminal Code will eventually be used in the same way (and probably in the not too distant future). This is all part of the spiritual warfare going on around us as Satan attempts to silence Christians.
Yes, religious freedom is rapidly eroding in the West as the once Christian foundations – the same foundations that gave rise to the idea of human rights – are disappearing and being replaced by secular humanism. We need to pray for Canada and the dedicated Christians who have to live with this kind of law.
If the world hates you, know that it hated me before it hated you. If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as if it were its own; But because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you from the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word I told you: “A servant is not greater than his master.” If they tortured me, they will torture you too. If they listen to me, they will listen to you too. (John 15:18-20)
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
