A man was found guilty Friday of killing his girlfriend in an El Segundo hotel room four years ago, according to authorities.
Luis Antonio Gomes Ake, 39, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Anna Laura Costa Porsburg, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The jury deliberated for less than three hours before reaching its verdict.
He faces up to 20 years in state prison and is scheduled to appear for a sentencing hearing on April 27, according to the release.
“For more than three years, Anna’s family and friends have waited for justice. Today the jury has spoken, returning its guilty verdict for first-degree murder against this sociopath and justice has come,” Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Nathan Hochman said in a news release. “So-called ‘no body’ cases are the hardest to prove because they rely heavily on circumstantial evidence.”
Anna Laura Costa Porsborg disappeared in December 2022 and is presumed dead. Her lover Luis Gomes Ake was found guilty of her murder.

According to the release, on Christmas Eve 2022, Gomes Ake and Porsburg stayed at a hotel in El Segundo after traveling from New Jersey. He visited many places in Los Angeles.
According to the release, the couple got into an argument after going to a bowling alley on Dec. 27, 2022. Porsberg was not seen or heard from again. Two days later, Gomes Ake was seen dragging a large suitcase from the hotel.
According to the release, cellphone and GPS evidence showed that Gomes drove toward the Angeles National Forest, where he remained for an hour. He went back to the hotel and reported his girlfriend missing.
According to the release, Gomes Ake was “controlling, jealous and possessive.” Witnesses flew in from Brazil to testify that his former girlfriend, 24-year-old Ana Claudia dos Santos, went missing in Brazil after breaking up with him. His body was also never found.
Two of Gomes Ake’s friends testified during the trial that he often said, “No body, no crime,” according to the release.
