General Chodor explains how it is easier to love people when we understand what they are going through. Using examples and analogies he explains how we can better understand the actions of others if we put ourselves in their shoes. Sometimes people’s rude or challenging behavior comes from their inner pain or difficulties they are struggling with. He introduces the teachings of the Indian Buddhist master, Shantideva, on exchanging ourselves with others as a way to break our self-centered perspective and deepen our empathy and love.
