Hulk Hogan opens up about hitting ‘rock bottom’ in posthumous documentary

Hulk Hogan revealed that there was a time in his life when he hit “low rock bottom” and contemplated suicide after separating from his wife Linda.

The wrestling legend made this confession in an interview for his new Netflix documentary, Hulk Hogan: The Real American, Which happened shortly before his death in July 2025.

In the interview, Hulk claimed that the couple’s bitter separation had left him completely broken, saying, “I went home and I started drinking and you know I started popping pills, and I just went down this rabbit hole for a couple of days and the next thing I know, I’m sitting in front of my bathroom with a gun in my mouth and I don’t know what I’m doing.”

He added, “I hit rock bottom. I gave 70 percent of everything to Linda because I never wanted to talk to her again, never wanted to be with her, never wanted to see her again.”

Hogan admitted, “So, I gave her everything to get rid of her and I had no money after the divorce. I was broke and so TNA (Total Nonstop Action Wrestling) came to my rescue.”

When the producers of the documentary asked what was the time when he was happiest, Hulk revealed that he still remembers the early days of his marriage with Linda fondly.

The pair married in 1983, and Linda, the mother of the wrestler’s two children, Brooke and Nick, filed for divorce in 2007, which was finalized two years later.

Linda also appears in the documentary and revealed that she never stopped loving her ex-husband even after the divorce and that her feelings became apparent after Hulk began experiencing health problems.

She said, “I still care about him just as much, it doesn’t go away. I wish things had happened differently for us. But then when he got sick, I realized that my love for him never diminished. I still have love for him. I really love him. I still love him.”

The documentary on Netflix revolves around the life and career of Hulk Hogan, and also includes a previously undisclosed interview with American Donald Trump, filmed at the White House earlier this year.

Director Brian Storkel told tmz sports Hogan played a direct role in arranging the meeting by personally contacting the US President to ensure his participation.

Bryan said, “There’s a nice little surprise interview with Donald Trump that (Hulk) helped me set up. We went to the White House and interviewed Trump and he talked all about Hulk Hogan.”

He said the process required persistence, explaining that Hulk required a few calls to convince the President to agree to an interview before Trump finally came around and agreed to sit down for a conversation.

“Hulk was supposed to go with us, but right before that he had to go into surgery,” Brian recalled.

The director of the Hulk Hogan documentary said of his meeting with Donald Trump, “I was talking to Hulk Hogan on the phone outside the Oval Office and he was very excited about the interview. It was actually my last phone call with him.”
