Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, match number 35 between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) just ended. It was a high scoring encounter in the game. As PBKS beat DC by 6 wickets, Punjab Kings chased the highest score in IPL history by surpassing their previous target of 262 runs.
Akshar Patel won the toss and decided to bat first. It was KL Rahul’s storm in the first innings that helped DC post their highest score in IPL history. He broke many records during his excellent innings of 152* runs.
KL Rahul created history
KL Rahul became the first Indian batsman to score 150+. This was his fastest IPL century to date; He broke the record of Abhishek Sharma, who had scored 141 against the same opponent in the competition last year.
KL Rahul stormed in this match and scored his first century of this season of the tournament. He was excellent in the first innings, and DC scored 264/3, and was the only third batsman to score 150+.
Punjab Kings achieved the highest run chase
However, the Shreyas Iyer-led side had other ideas as PBKS openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh went wild as the duo scored 120 runs in the power play. Both of them made a partnership of 128 runs for the first wicket.
After this Nehal Vadhera and Shreyas Iyer made a partnership of 56 runs. Shreyas Iyer was dismissed twice by Karun Nair and the PBKS skipper completed his half-century in 26 balls. He remained unbeaten till the end with a score of 71 and created history as PBKS chased 265 with an over to spare.
PBKS made a new record
PBKS chased the highest score ever in IPL history, breaking their previous record of 262 when the team chased the target of 262 at the Eden Gardens in 2024, where Jonny Bairstow scored a century.
Today, it was the PBKS openers who once again gave them a great start by scoring over 100 runs. He was absolutely brilliant in the match. With this win PBKS is still unbeaten in the league and is on top of the table.
After the match, Priyansh Arya said, “We thought we could score a century in the powerplay. The pitch was very good. Initially, we thought they would make 240, which we could achieve. I was having a lot of fun (watching Prabh hit sixes). Ricky sir had said that if we play our best, we can achieve it. Just have some confidence.”
