    Vatican confirms official itinerary for Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Spain

    On May 6, the Holy See made public the official schedule of Pope Leo XIV’s apostolic visit to Spain, which will take place June 6-12, when he will visit Madrid, Barcelona and the Canary Islands.

    The Pope will depart Rome at 8 a.m. local time on June 6 and is scheduled to arrive in Madrid at 10:30 a.m.

    At 11:30 a.m., there will be a reception at the Royal Palace of Madrid, followed by a courtesy call on the King and Queen of Spain, Don Felipe VI and Doña Letizia. At the same location, the Pope will meet government officials, members of civil society and the diplomatic corps, before whom he will deliver his first address.

    At 6 pm, he will visit the CEDIA 24-hour facility (an outreach to homeless people). Later that evening, from 8:30 p.m., a prayer vigil with youth will be held in the Plaza de Lima near the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

    On Sunday, June 7, he will celebrate Mass in Cibeles Plaza followed by a Corpus Christi procession. At noon, he will hold a private meeting with members of the Order of St. Augustine at the nunnery, and at 6 p.m. he will chair an event titled “Weaving Networks with the Worlds of Culture, Arts and Sports,” where he will give another speech.

    In the evening he will dine at the residence of Cardinal Jose Cobo, the Archbishop of Madrid.

    On Monday, June 8, at 9:30 a.m., he will meet with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez before heading to the Congress of Deputies (lower house), where Leo XIV will become the first pontiff to address the country’s legislature, known as the Cortes Generales.

    Next, he will head to the headquarters of the Spanish Bishops’ Conference, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary. There he will meet the bishops. He will also meet the bishops in Nanshichar and have lunch there.

    At 6 p.m., there will be a prayer service and veneration of the Virgin of Almudena in the Cathedral. Next, at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, he will meet the diocesan community, where he will present another idea.

    On Tuesday, June 9, before the visit to Barcelona, ​​Leo will meet volunteers in a pavilion within the XIV International Trade Fair Centre, to whom he will address a few words.

    Shortly after 11am, he will take off from Madrid and arrive at Barcelona’s El Prat Airport at around 12:30pm. At 1 pm he will offer afternoon prayers at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and St. Eulalia, where he will deliver a sermon.

    The next morning, on Wednesday, June 10, the Holy Father will visit the “Bryans 1” correctional facility. At noon, he will head to the Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat, where he will pray the rosary and give an address.

    After lunch with the Benedictine community of Montserrat, he will hold a meeting with charitable and social aid organizations at St. Augustine’s Church at 4:30 p.m., where he will pitch another idea.

    At 7:30 pm, he will lead mass at the Sagrada Familia Basilica, where the Jesus Christ Tower will be inaugurated.

    On Thursday, June 11, the Pope will visit the city of Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria. At 11:40 a.m., he will directly observe the welcome of migrants at the port of the city of Arguineguin, on the southern end of the island.

    At 1:30 p.m., he will meet bishops, priests, deacons, religious, seminarians and pastoral workers at the Santa Ana Cathedral. Later that day, at 6:30 pm, he will lead mass at the Gran Canaria Stadium.

    On Friday, June 12, he will fly to the city of Santa Cruz on the island of Tenerife, arriving at 9:10 am. After this, he will hold a meeting with migrants held at the Las Rices centre.

    At 10:10 a.m., a gathering focused on migrant integration initiatives is scheduled to take place in the Plaza del Cristo de la Laguna. After noon, he will lead mass in the port of Santa Cruz on Tenerife.

    After the farewell ceremony, his plane will take off for Rome at 3 pm, where it is scheduled to reach at 8:10 pm Rome time.
