Mitchell Marsh at his best. Against a strong bowling line-up of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the experienced Australian smashed a confident century for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium tonight.
Marsh was looking in good form at the beginning of the innings. He kept the pace going and smashed a brilliant century. A very important innings from the batsman for the team as well.
A statement century from Mitchell Marsh
Since the start of the IPL 2026 season, LSG has been struggling with their starting combinations. For tonight’s match, he formed the opening pair with Marsh and an uncapped Indian batsman, Arshin Kulkarni. Till now, it has been a one-man show in Lucknow, with Mitchell Marsh at the center of the stage.
Marsh needed only 48 balls to reach the 100-run mark. This was the fastest century scored by Lucknow Super Giants batsmen in the history of the league. He completed his century by hitting a four off RCB fast bowler Romario Shepherd.
on the fourth ball of 14th Marsh hit a four on Shepherd in the first over of the match. It was a 132.7 kmph delivery by the seamer, a full toss outside off. Marsh got a lot of time to adjust himself. When the ball came into the batsman’s range, he opened the blade and drove the ball down the ground through the point cordon for four. Throughout the innings, he never looked in discomfort nor did any of the opposition bowlers betray him extensively. A well-crafted century from the LSG batsman.
The pitch was not a paradise for the batsmen
Before the match, experts had predicted that the spinners might get assistance from the deck, as there were cracks and very little grass on top. Also, it is a black soil pitch, so the fast bowlers were also expected to perform well in the match.
“Finchy, do you think it might be a bit much for the bowlers and spinners, especially because of the friction? Especially for the spinners. I think if the fast bowlers can find really good hard lengths, where it’s something Josh Hazlewood, Avesh Khan are accustomed to, finding those types of bowlers, that will be difficult for the batsmen, especially in those middle stages of the game,” Deep Dasgupta told Aaron Finch on behalf of the pitch.
