Karthik questioned the decision to buy the aggressive opening batsman in the auction and keep him on the bench for the entire tournament.

Delhi Capitals’ playoff hopes in IPL 2026 have become extremely difficult after yet another defeat in the tournament. If you had Prithvi Shaw… – Murali Karthik

Murali Karthik expressed surprise at this during a discussion on Cricbuzz Delhi Capitals Prithvi is continuously ignoring Shaw. Karthik said that using a specialist opener like Prithvi Shaw could give the franchise more flexibility in adjusting their struggling middle order.

“If you have Prithvi Shaw, well, he was in the jungle in the last two years. You brought him back; you picked him in the auction based on some logic. You haven’t looked at him. If you pick him at the top, it opens up options for you. You have a gun opener. He is there for a reason. You are looking at everyone except Prithvi Shaw.”

Shaw remained unsold in the last IPL season before Delhi Capitals bought him for his base price of Rs 75 lakh ahead of IPL 2026. However, the management continued to open with P.Athum Nissanka With KL Rahul and even promoted Sahil Parakh instead of giving a chance to Shaw.
