According to Iranian news agency IRNA, Iran has responded to the US proposal by sending its message through a Pakistani mediator aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.
Although Iranian officials have not publicly disclosed details of the proposal, Iranian media reports suggest that Tehran is seeking guarantees against future attacks and the removal of US sanctions before moving forward with broader talks.
Iranian news agency Tasnim, citing informed sources, reported that Iran’s response emphasizes the urgent need to end the war and secure protection against further aggression towards the country.
The proposal also reportedly calls for the release of Iran’s frozen assets during a 30-day period and links future discussions to US commitments regarding sanctions and Iran’s management of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to reports, Iran is currently not offering to negotiate on its nuclear program, which remains one of the biggest points of tension between Tehran and Washington.
US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz told Fox News Sunday that Washington’s latest proposal includes a “very clear red line.”
He said: “President (Donald) Trump has been clear that he will never have nuclear weapons and that he cannot hold the world’s economies hostage.”
Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian also wrote on Twitter in an aggressive tone: “We will never bow our heads before the enemy, and if it comes to negotiations or negotiations, it does not mean surrender or retreat.”
