Taylor Swift and Millie Bobby Brown revive the peplum top trend

A few years ago, even the faintest whisper of the word “peplum” would elicit so much anger and condemnation that you’d assume the polarizing hemline was the most infamous fashion trend of all time. Fast forward a bit, and courtesy of Agolde’s interesting denim options, Alaia’s sculptural styles, and Dior’s dreamy iterations, peplum top jackets are being brought back into the wardrobes of even the most tasteful.

While the trend will always have a connection to the everyday business casual aesthetic that reigned in the 2010s – especially given the fact that it’s been enshrined in history through pop culture monoliths from the decade like Lena Dunham’s Girls – the emerging figure has appeared to shrug off its harshest critics and detractors. Now, it seems the peplum top has done the unthinkable and united both Gen Z and Millennial tastemakers in their unified appreciation for the silhouette.

Or, at least that’s what happened overnight in New York as Taylor Swift and Millie Bobby Brown both stepped out on the town wearing the styles for separate occasions. Though falling on both sides of the apparel spectrum — Swift’s is far more classic and preppy than the Stranger Things star’s penchant for ’90s references and casual loungewear — who would have thought that it would take something so controversial and vintage to bring together two vastly different approaches to dressing?

The distinctive peplum top she wore came courtesy of Stella McCartney’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection and is made of a velvety cotton-poplin fabric. She styled it with the Fendi Peekaboo ISEU Petite, straight-leg trousers from The Row and her signature Cartier Santos watch.
