Three Russian hunters have been arrested after shooting and killing a teenage boy, mistaking them for a deer while hunting in Siberia.
Ruslan Guas, 17, died when a group of two businessmen and a football coach shot him.
The trio were reportedly drunk when the tragedy unfolded and initially fled the scene but later surrendered themselves to the police.
According to investigators, two teenagers were riding a moped near the village of Mezhdurino in Russia’s Kemerovo region when they heard a vehicle approaching.
Believing it might be the police, the pair left the road and hid in nearby bushes.
Moments later, 42-year-old Yevgeny N opened fire after seeing a silhouette through a thermal sight and claiming he had “mistaken the boy for a roe deer”.

The two other poachers were named as football coach Konstantin Sh and timber businessman Vitaly Z.
Russian authorities have launched a murder investigation into the teen’s death.
The Russian Investigative Committee said detectives had “established the involvement in the murder of three people, one of whom deliberately fired in the direction of the victim while hunting”.
Following the shooting, Ruslan’s devastated girlfriend, 17-year-old Violet Parushkina, took to social media to demand justice.
“During the night a tragedy struck my family – my lover, Ruslan Gause… was shot dead,” she wrote.
“Law enforcement officials took those responsible into custody within 24 hours.”
Violetta urged the authorities to ensure that people face the consequences of their actions.
She said: “I want this to be made public so that those responsible can be fully punished to the fullest extent of the law.
“I ask all caring people to help.”
This is not the first time that a boy has died accidentally.
In 2018, a teenager accidentally committed suicide while playing Russian roulette alone.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head after playing the deadly game in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Russian roulette is a game of chance in which a player pulls the trigger of a gun loaded with only one bullet.
Police say there was at least one “click” of chamber before teen shot himself in mobile home sherwoodOregon.
Police Captain Ty Hanlon said: “It appears he brought a handgun with him and witness statements indicate he was playing a game called Russian Roulette.
“We believe he started it all by coming himself.”
