PM Shehbaz likely to visit Iran to attend funeral prayers of Ayatollah Ali KhameneiBreaking

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is likely to visit Iran in the first week of July to attend the funeral prayers of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according toopening hours of the US-Israel-Iran war on February 28 during a strike on a meeting of senior officials in Tehran. Reports said his daughter, daughter-in-law and at least one grandchild were also killed in the attack
Iranian state media reported that Khamenei’s funeral will be held on July 9 in his hometown of Mashhad, after three days of funeral ceremonies in Tehran and another ceremony in the holy city of Qom. His son, Mojtaba Ali Khamenei, reportedly survived the attack despite suffering injuries and has assumed the role of supreme leader. He has not yet appeared in public
Following the Iran visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz is also expected to travel to Türkiye, which supported Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts during the US-Israel conflict involving Iran. Pakistan and Iran have strengthened bilateral ties after Islamabad played a mediatory role during the conflict. Pakistan also hosted talks between Washington and Tehran in April, with both sides later acknowledging Islamabad’s efforts to help end the war
