LAHORE : Security was placed on high alert across Punjab, including Lahore, on the occasion of Friday prayers following directives from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem
The IGP ordered enhanced security at mosques, Imambargahs, shrines, markets, sensitive locations, foreign consulates and other key installations. Police patrolling around religious places, commercial centres and major roads was intensified, while checking of suspicious vehicles, individuals and luggage was tightened at entry and exit points of Lahore and other cities
The IGP said maintaining law and order and protecting the lives and property of citizens remained the top priority of Punjab Police. He directed all DPOs and senior police officers to remain in the field, personally monitor security arrangements and ensure effective surveillance of sensitive locations. He also ordered the deployment of vigilant personnel at inter-provincial border checkpoints to keep a watch on anti-state elements. Search, sweep and combing operations around mosques, Imambargahs, foreign consulates and other important locations were directed to continue without interruption.
