Employees of RWMC and MC protest for honorarium

Rawalpindi:Hundreds of employees of Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) and Municipal Corporation (MC) took to the streets in protest over not receiving the announced honorarium on Eid-ul-Azha and not making contract employees permanent. The affected employees marched from Murree Road to Rawalpindi Press Club and raised slogans against the administration of their institutions
The affected employees argued that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had announced to give an honorarium of Rs10,000 each to the employees of Waste Management Company Rawalpindi on Eid-ul-Azha, while the employees set an example of cleanliness by working 24 hours a day for 3 days of Eid-ul-Azha, but hundreds of employees of the company who cleaned the city have not been given honorarium yet
They said that a large number of employees in the institution are still working on daily wages or contracts, while despite the increasing inflation, employees have neither been given honorarium nor confirmed, while employees are forced to commit suicide due to inflation. The protesters said that there are hungry people in our homes. Even getting a daily bread has become difficult
According to Raja Haroon, President of the Municipal Labor Union representing the RWMC and the Municipal Corporation, and Shahid Raza, Secretary, the ongoing protest sit-in for the permanent status of the workmen in May this year was postponed on the assurance of the administration, after which the authority to make the contract employees permanent was given to the Chief Officer of the Corporation under the 2021 policy
However, despite repeated reminders from the union, no practical steps were taken, after which the employees were left with no option but to protest and boycott government affairs. They warned that if the contract employees were not made permanent immediately, they would protest for an indefinite period
