On weekdays, Dr. Aubrey Vaughan is busy at Goodrich High School, making sure his students receive an education. Wednesdays and Sundays, he is teaching all ages, as the pastor at Beulah Land Baptist Church
Somehow, he had enough spare time to write a book. In it, Vaughan creates a study guide geared to all ages and knowledge levels for learning the Bible
“This is the first book in a series,” Vaughan said. “The series title is ‘Knowing God Through the Pages of His Word.’ And this is volume one: ‘Bible Study is Essential for Every Believer.’ And what it is, is an explanation or a way of looking at the Bible and having study skills, because it’s important to study God’s word. But, nobody ever tells you how to study it. So, it’s not taking a passage of scripture and explaining the scripture. It’s more about taking scripture and then asking questions, leading questions. There are other areas in the book where I use parallel passages or one set of scripture, and then get a second one to look at the comparison between the two. A lot of times, scripture will explain scripture.”
Vaughan said the book takes the reader on a spiritual journey through life. There is plenty of room to jot down notes, sections to pause and ponder, and stories about the author’s life that help in understanding God’s word
Available on Amazon, the 525 pages relate to teenagers all the way to mature adults. It serves as a help for anyone who recently started reading the Bible, and finds new ways of seeing scripture for faithful readers
“It’s for all levels,” Vaughan said. “As a writer, I want folks to concentrate and to see God’s word more than my word. At the very end of this book, if they close my book and their Bible is open, then that’s successful. I don’t give you the verses. You take your Bible, open it up to a passage, and then read it. The questions just kind of guide you along that path
“The purpose is to help the reader know God. What is God trying to tell us through His word? It’s more slow down, read, enjoy what you’re reading, contemplate, and think about it. Whenever you’re looking at a verse, it says different things to different people. The Holy Spirit is what illuminates the scriptures. And He’ll do that as you sit there and look at those verses.”
The plan is for eight books in the series. The second book is due out sometime around November
“In this first volume, it’s different parts, different stories, different characters of the Bible – introducing them. It’s not so much explaining a passage as it is showing the passage and what you do to help understand it – some tools to help
“I’ve been an English teacher, I’m an educator, former military, and a pastor. It’s just a combination of all those things together put down in word. Hopefully, it’ll be a blessing to people.”
