Former US Senator Ben Sasse talks about his cancer diagnosis, family and the future of American politics in an emotional interview with 60 Minutes.
Sasse, who was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic pancreatic cancer in December, said he is living on an “extended timeline” after being given only a few months to live.
He credited “providence, prayer and a miracle drug” for extending his life, with his tumor having shrunk by 76 percent after participating in a clinical trial.
In an interview with journalist Scott Pelley, Sasse reflected on his personal journey as well as broader concerns about the United States.
“None of these parties really have very big or good ideas about 2030 or 2050. Congress is not grappling with the big important questions right now,” he said.
Sasse, a Republican representing Nebraska, has remained active in public discussions despite his illness.
