Federal authorities have conducted several raids in Minnesota as part of an ongoing fraud investigation.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, along with other agencies, executed 22 search warrants in the Minneapolis area on Tuesday morning, according to officials cited by CNN.
A spokesperson for the US Justice Department said: “Today, the FBI along with federal, state and local law enforcement engaged in court-authorized law enforcement activity as part of an ongoing fraud investigation.”
According to CNN affiliate KARE, most of the locations targeted are businesses receiving Medicaid funding, including childcare facilities.
Officials confirmed that the operation was not related to immigration enforcement, although Homeland Security investigations were involved.
The investigation follows allegations of misuse of federal funds by some businesses, which has also been the subject of recent congressional hearings.
Authorities have not released further details about the nature of the alleged fraud or any possible charges.
The situation remains under investigation, and more updates are expected as authorities continue their inquiries.
