US President Donald Trump welcomed the British monarch, joking about how his late mother, who was born in Scotland, was “obsessed” with King Charles.
“She really loved the family, but I also remember very clearly her saying, ‘Charles, look – young Charles, he’s very sweet,'” Trump said of his mother after being greeted with a 21-gun salute on the South Lawn. My Mom Had a Crush on Charles, Can You Believe It? Amazing… I wonder what she’s thinking right now.”
King Charles was seen laughing and even raising his hand in approval when the US President shared his mother’s sentiments towards him and the late Queen Elizabeth II.
