Galaxy S owners have been waiting for built-in Qi2 magnets since the iPhone simplified MagSafe. The Galaxy S25 left them out. Despite months of leaks indicating otherwise, the Galaxy S26 has bypassed them again. according to A new rumor from Yeux1122Samsung may eventually address the Galaxy S27 Qi2 issue, but apparently fixing it requires moving the camera first.

The claim comes from a source described as a “related company,” so treat it accordingly. The basic idea is that the current camera position blocks the circular magnet ring needed for proper built-in Qi2.2 support. Moving the camera will clear enough real estate on the back panel for those magnets to fit seamlessly. This would mean that the Galaxy S27 Qi2 will support without magnetic cases. Simply snap your phone directly onto the charger or power bank.

    Case-free Qi2 problem isn’t new

Samsung’s camera placement has barely changed over the years. The lenses are located in the upper-left corner, and that position clashes with where the Qi2 magnet ring needs to be for proper alignment. This is why the Galaxy S26 Ultra warned users about interference with the S Pen when using third-party magnetic cases. The magnet ring and the S Pen’s digitizer fight for the same space.

Samsung has found solutions. The company tested a hybrid S Pen design for the S27 Ultra, which would have removed the digitizer layer entirely, freeing up space for a native magnet. That effort was abandoned before reaching production.

So moving the cameras is apparently the current plan. The catch is the cost. According to the same report, rising RAM and storage prices may force Samsung to delay the whole thing on the Galaxy S28 instead. When Samsung was asked why the S26 omitted magnets, it gave a similar answer: internal space priorities, component costs, and engineering trade-offs.

If the Galaxy S27 comes with native Qi2 magnets, it will be the first Galaxy S phone to do so. Apple has had MagSafe since 2020. Google has installed native magnets across the entire Pixel 10 lineup.
