    TL;DR

    • Google is relaunching the Home and Nest Community and Fitbit Community Forums next month with an improved experience.
    • The company confirmed to Android Authority that previous posts will be completely erased in May once the change takes place.
    • Thousands of help posts related to complaints, tips, and feedback will be lost forever as part of the upgrade.

Google last week announced plans to upgrade and relaunch its support communities for Home, Nest, and Fitbit products. The company’s Home and Nest platforms are being overhauled in what Google describes as “a fundamental makeover.” Fitbit may be ready for an even bigger upgrade, as its current support community predates the Google acquisition. Big changes are coming, and in a statement to Android Authority, Google confirmed that everyone’s old posts, complaints, and tips will be gone forever after the switch.

A Google spokesperson told us that “no historical data will be available” after the switch to the new community support platform. “To join us, you will need to create a new account,” he said. “Once we launch, the existing platform will be deleted along with all existing profile data as we make way for this new chapter.”

origin of google blog post Announcing the move it said that user post history would no longer be available in the new community. Still, it made us wonder whether thousands of old Home and Nest community posts will be moved forward for users’ reference. Google cleared up Android Authority by saying “previous posts will no longer be available.”

The same applies to the Fitbit community, which is going through similar changes. This is not so surprising, since Google’s initial Fitbit Community Blog Post The changes are described in more detail:

We can’t wait to see your updated community! To join us, you will need to create a new account. Please note that once we launch, the existing platform will be retired along with all existing profile data as we make way for this new chapter.

In the same post, the company says it will “soon share more details” about changes coming to the Home & Nest Community and Fitbit Community in May.

In short, the upgrade is designed to make Google’s support communities “smoother, faster, and more intuitive.” New categories are coming that will make it easier to navigate the forums, requiring fewer clicks to get where you need to go. There is a reorganized content layout for discussions, and a dedicated discussion space for Gemini for Home.

This all sounds exciting, but it’s a little strange that years of customer complaints, tips, and feedback will disappear when Google makes the switch.
