Dutch authorities had to immediately evacuate Kempten Airport on Thursday after a large wildfire broke out in the area around the airport.
As reported, authorities evacuated a Dutch airport after a large wildfire broke out near a military training area in the south of the Netherlands, officials said.
The fire broke out near a military training site in the north of Limburg province.
Kempten Airport is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the Netherlands. The incident is the latest in a series of fires amid exceptionally dry conditions in the country.
Additionally, another fire broke out on Thursday, also near a military training area, about 40 kilometers to the east, close to the German-Dutch border, and fire brigades are trying to bring both fires under control, local security officials said.
It comes after a separate fire was reported near a military training site in the north of the country on Wednesday.
A spokesman for the national gendarmerie force, Marchesoussi, said it was investigating the cause of the fire.
He said it was too early to draw a connection between the three fires and military activities taking place at the locations at the time of the fires.
Weather experts concluded that there has been very little rain in the Netherlands for several weeks, making this April one of the driest on record and increasing the risk of wildfires.
