Through My Bible Year 03 – 01 May
Luke 21:1-24
luke 21
poor widow gave more
1 Jesus looked up and saw rich people putting their gifts into the offering box. 2 There he saw a poor widow putting in two small coins. (1) 3 He said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow worked harder than anyone else, 4 Because they all offer some of their leftover food as an offering to God, (2) But he, coming out of his poverty, gave everything he had to make a living.”
The destruction of Jerusalem and the end of the world
5 When some people were talking about the temple, how it was decorated with beautiful stones and offerings, Jesus said, 6 “These things that you see here—the days will come when not even one stone will be left upon another—every one will be thrown down.”
7 They asked him, “Teacher, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that these things will happen?”
8 He said, “Take heed that you are not deceived! For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and ‘the time is at hand.’ Don’t follow them. 9 Whenever you hear about wars and revolutions, do not be alarmed, for these things will certainly happen at first, but the end will not be good.”
10 Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 There will be major earthquakes, famines and epidemics in various places. Terrible sights and great signs will be seen from heaven. 12 But before all these things, they will lay hands on you, and persecute you, and deliver you into synagogues, and into prisons, and deliver you before kings and rulers for my name’s sake. 13 This will prove to be an opportunity for you to testify. 14 Therefore, you should decide not to prepare in advance how to defend yourself, 15 Because I will give you such words and wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to confront or refute. 16 You will also get betrayed by parents and brothers (3) Relatives, and friends. They will kill some of you. 17 Everyone will hate you because of my name. 18 But not even a hair on your head will be destroyed. 19 By enduring patiently you will gain your life.
20 “When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let those who are inside the city come out. Do not allow those who are in the country to enter the city. 22 For these are the days of retribution, that what is written may be executed. 23 How terrible it will be for those who will be pregnant and lactating in those days! Because there will be a great crisis in the country, and anger will rise against these people. 24 They will fall by the edge of the sword and will be taken into captivity in all countries. Jerusalem will continue to be trampled by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
