Ahead of Mumbai Indians’ next IPL 2026 match against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday, May 4, former captain Rohit Sharma found himself embroiled in a new incident. The incident occurred during MI’s net practice session at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, May 3.
During the session, it was reported that Rohit had accidentally hit a groundsman while practicing one of his shots. Injured groundsman Siban Biswas spoke to Mid-Day about the incident.

“When Rohit Sharma sir asked us to remove the off-side net, we did so and stood to the side. Just then, when I was wrapping the rope and not paying attention to the nearby players, the ball hit my left knee.”
“Rohit sir immediately came and asked about the injury, but I told him to continue batting and not get worried. Still, he returned with an ice pack and also sent me some medicine and a spray to apply on my leg,” said the 27-year-old Biswas. “It was mixed emotions… although there was pain in my knee, but it also feels good because I got a chance to shake hands with Rohit sir,” Biswas said.
Rohit Sharma has missed many matches due to injury
Rohit made a strong start to the season with a brilliant inning of 78 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders, but he has been able to play only 4 matches. On 12 April, during the fourth match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rohit Sharma injured his toe and had to leave the field. Since then, his return to the field has been delayed due to a hamstring injury.
Rohit has so far scored 137 runs in 4 matches at an average of 45.67 and a strike rate of 165, with one half-century and a high score of 78. In his absence, MI have been unable to find stability at the top of the order, having tried three different opening pairs in the five matches since his departure.

Most of their big stars, like Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Verma, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, are out of form. Due to this, the playoff hopes of Mumbai Indians have been completely shattered.
MI now have less than a slim chance of qualifying for the playoffs, even if they win all their matches from here. The string of losses has also forced their net run rate to take a serious hit.
