    TL;DR

    • Some Netflix users say an error is preventing them from canceling their subscription.
    • This issue appears to be affecting many customers since last week.
    • This timing is especially infuriating for some people, as Netflix recently raised the prices of all of its US plans.

Netflix has made sure over the years that you can’t easily share an account, and most recently, it increased the cost of your subscription in the US. That latter factor in particular may have led some users to reconsider whether they wanted to keep their account, but some customers say they are now encountering an error when they try to cancel their subscription.

Have you recently received an error message when trying to cancel your Netflix subscription?

as seen piunikawebStarted a Reddit thread r/anticonsumption When attempting to cancel the user sees Netflix’s “Something went wrong” page, displaying the error code NSES-500 at the bottom. The poster states that they have been trying to cancel on multiple devices for several days.

This issue does not appear to be limited to that one user. There are over 1,500 upvotes on that thread, and several similar threads on r/netflix, like this oneEven after trying all sorts of solutions, customers still report getting a similar error when trying to cancel.

Netflix’s own help page The error code NSES-500 is described as a server issue that prevents the browser from loading the website, and there is nothing here to suggest that the company is intentionally preventing people from cancelling. Still, the timing is unfortunate, given that Netflix recently raised its US prices across the board. Premium with ads increased from $7.99 to $8.99, Standard increased from $17.99 to $19.99, and Premium increased from $24.99 to $26.99.

This makes this error screen especially annoying for people who are trying to get ahead of their next billing date. One Redditor suggested changing the payment method to an expired card, while others suggested contacting the bank or trying a different browser. According to various reports, some users have had success canceling by calling Netflix customer service directly. If you’re experiencing similar frustrations and your billing date is approaching, this less-than-ideal approach may be the best option for you.
