Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has revealed his two primary motives for war in Iran as he outlined the dangers of Iran’s Islamic regime.
Israel and the United States launched a joint military operation against Iran on February 28, codenamed Operation Epic Fury by the Americans and Operation Roaring Lion by the Israelis, which eliminated Iran’s top leadership and targeted its nuclear and police facilities.
Netanyahu has been warning for years about the threat he believes Iran’s nuclear program poses to Israel and the world.
While visiting the city of Arad, a diverse Israeli city where more than 80 people were injured after an Iranian missile attack on a residential building, Netanyahu revealed his two priorities for the Iran war. The nearby southern desert city of Dimona was also affected.
“We have defined two clear goals,” Netanyahu exclusively informed Fox & Friends’ Trey Yingst on Sunday.
“The first is to completely break their nuclear program, to completely break their missile program, to completely break their ability to produce components for both of these programs, and we are all on the path to achieving that,” he said.
“We have also set the goal of creating conditions for the Iranian people to overthrow this tyranny that has tormented them and made life miserable. It is making life miserable for the entire world, and I hope we will achieve that as well.”
During the same visit, Netanyahu condemned Iran for targeting civilian areas within the past 48 hours, including civilians in Arad as well as holy sites in Jerusalem. He said it was a “miracle” that no one was killed.
He boldly claimed, “They are doing it as a weapon of mass murder. Fortunately, no one was killed. But that was because of luck, not because of their intention. Their intention is to kill civilians.”
Netanyahu insisted Iran has the capability to strike deep into Europe, pointing out that it has already attacked Cyprus.
He criticized Iran for attacking the US-UK military base on Diego Garcia and the blockade of shipments in the Strait of Hormuz, charging that Iran is “trying to blackmail the whole world” because the blockade is causing global fuel prices to rise.
“What more proof do you need that this regime that threatens the entire world must be stopped. Israel and the United States are working together for the sake of the entire world.” He appealed to world leaders to join the fight and expressed hope that some people were starting to do so, but he pressed for more people to get involved.
“President Trump calls on the international community to confront this terrorist, fundamentalist regime. This is not only for the security of America and Israel, but for the security of the entire world. And it is time for them to act.”
He warned Iran that Israel would respond with “great force” to its attacks on Israeli civilians, but promised not to target civilians.
More than 175 people were killed and 95 were injured at the Shajareh Taybeh primary school in Minab during the initial attacks on Iran. The school is located near an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) military base.
Iran accused America and Israel of attacking, although both have rejected this allegation.
An investigation into the attack is ongoing, although initial reports suggest the school was accidentally hit by a US Tomahawk missile due to a targeting error, Al Jazeera reports.
The Israeli PM’s comments came almost a year after Israel carried out a significant 12-day military campaign against Iran, during which it targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities starting in mid-June.
During the 12-day conflict, US President donald trump Also supported Israel by attacking Iranian nuclear facilities. At the time, Trump declared victory and claimed that he had “completely destroyed” Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
