Venkatesh Iyer, the new addition to the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad for the current season of IPL, has revealed that the RCB dressing room is intense, as it usually is in the presence of a character like Virat Kohli.
Royal Challengers Bangalore won the IPL title for the first time in the last season of the IPL, and since they had a set squad, they specifically targeted a few players in the mini-auction. The new inclusions looked interesting as they got people like Venkatesh Iyer and Mangesh Yadav.
These players were among the significant attractions, as Venkatesh Iyer was included at a hefty price of Rs 7 crore, while Mangesh was also bought at a price of Rs 5.2 crore. However, none of these players have been named in the playing eleven; Venkatesh Iyer was used as an impact player.
Venkatesh Iyer claimed, “No dressing room can be great where Virat Kohli is there.”
Virat Kohli is known for his intense character on and off the field. While on the field, Virat has been seen making the most of his game, making it an engaging competition for his fans as well as his teammates.
Venkatesh Iyer has revealed that Virat is enjoying some fun moments with his teammates in the RCB camp. Kohli has been seen in some funny moments like imitating Romario Shepherd or calling out Venkatesh Iyer, Allan Donald in the nets. Iyer claimed that no dressing room could be non-compact in his presence.
Venkatesh Iyer said, “The atmosphere is very comfortable. Also, no dressing room can be stressful where Virat Kohli is there. So obviously, the intensity is there, and everyone is very clear about how they have to play in all the games. And yes, so far so good.”
“I’ve been working hard with DK in the nets. Just waiting for my chance” – Venkatesh Iyer
Venkatesh revealed that he is eagerly waiting for a chance to make his debut in the playing eleven or even play as an impact player. He also revealed that he has been working hard in the nets and is waiting for the opportunity to show his form.
“I have been working really hard with DK in the nets. Just waiting for my chance. But yes, the team is doing really well. Everyone, whatever roles they have been given, they are giving it 100%.
“And I think it’s just about waiting for my opportunity, and whenever it comes, obviously, with the impact player rule, I can go to bat at any time. So yes, just working hard in training and see what happens,” the RCB claimed.
“We back our strengths and see where it takes us,” Iyer said on RCB’s strategies against DC.
The RCB player also admitted that their latest opponents, Delhi Capitals, have a very good batting lineup but he has confidence in their bowlers, who are in good form. He said that collective efforts will be made and they will stick to their strengths.
Talking about the match, he said, “Obviously, DC is a very good team with good batting. The weather is quite hot here. So we have to adapt quickly. And they have a good, strong batting line-up. But yes, our bowling is very good, and we have prepared our plan.”
He concluded, “It’s just about going out there and executing it. We’ve come to a point where, yes, there is opposition; we think about what the opposition is going to do, but we play to our strengths and see where it takes us.”
