For Larsen’s present midnight Sun era, Ospina summed up her aesthetic in a few words: “Dopamine, angel, powerful, sexy girl.” And we completely agree that it’s dopamine dressing maximum. “If you like Zara’s style, it’s because you like color. She’s all about empowerment. So if you want to wear her, you have to be a very adventurous and happy person; free and yourself and sexy.”
While she makes it clear that Larson is the big boss, Ospina is in charge of research for inspiration (ex: Winx Club, Bratz, and Hannah Montana) and reaching out to costume designers (especially emerging talent, Spanish creatives, and Central Saint Martins College graduates) to help reflect the various “fun fairy vibes” and “hot and sexy” parts of Larson’s concert. “I see something in them, an element or a color or a shape that I like. How can I bring that into Zara’s world? How can we merge it and make it magical for Zara?” She explains her thought process.
This is how Ospina found the Irish designer Sorcha O’RaghlaighWho has previously created custom pieces for pop icons like Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Madonna, and Kylie Minogue (and who was actually stepping back from custom designs at the time). His signature element? The floral work dates back to his CSM graduate collection. “They’ve always been a thread in my work. So I think Katrina gravitated towards me developing a special hibiscus,” says O’Raghalagh, “It’s been a real dream to work with Katrina and Zara, who also appreciate color and texture and sparkle, which is my favorite thing.”
Ospina echoes this point, saying: “At the time no one really knew what we were capable of, and with him, it was the perfect match.” i.e. when Larson steps out at the 2025 MTV VMAs A collaborative look by the stylist and costume designer featured the singer in a dazzling mini dress covered in rhinestone hibiscus flowers, with matching hair clips. (And in case you’re wondering, Ospina and O’Raaghaleigh both cite this era-defining and transformative look as their favorite Larson design to date.)
