Amazon has a new Kindle case, and it’s a lot less subtle than usual. The company recently released a Project Hail Mary-themed cover for its latest Kindle Paperwhite and ColorSoft models, based entirely on the growing overlap between fandom and utility.

The front shows protagonist Ryland Grace drifting right out of an airlock, tied to a ship, against a bright, colorful space background. If you’ve read Andy Weir’s book (or seen the film adaptation) it’s instantly recognizable, and it’s a lot sharper than Amazon’s usual muted cover.
It opens like a hardcover folio, with a magnetic front flap that activates or deactivates your device when you open or close it. This is standard functionality for Amazon, but it helps differentiate the design from cheaper third-party fan-made covers. Paired with the bold sci-fi design associated with one of the most popular modern space novels, this case stands out even more.
There aren’t many reviews yet, although early impressions describe it as sturdy and well built. Some comparisons peg it closer to Amazon’s heavier children’s cases than its thinner covers. Amazo doesn’t explicitly list the case’s material anywhere on the product page, though an early review describes it as a “soft leather-like” material.
The Project Hail Mary Case is available now, amazing, amazing, priced at $49.99, which puts it a little above Amazon’s standard covers.
