The world’s most infamous road is the Via Dolorosa, the “Way of Sorrows”. According to tradition, this is the route Jesus took from Pilate’s hall to Calvary. The path is marked by stations that Christians often use for their devotions – each station commemorating the events of the last journey of Jesus Christ. No one really knows what path Christ followed that Friday. But we know where the path began. In heaven.
Jesus began his journey when he left his home to seek us. There is a word in the Bible for this quest: reconciliation. “God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:19). Reconciliation reunites what has been resolved, reverses rebellion, and rekindles cooled passions. Reconciliation touches the shoulder of the lost person and draws him home. The way of the cross tells us how far God will go to call us back!
