Following Amy Winehouse’s death due to excessive drug and alcohol abuse, much of the blame was placed on her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil.
Fielder-Civil, now 43, is believed to have introduced the beloved singer to drugs such as heroin and cocaine and was often seen as the villain in her tragic life story.
Since Winehouse’s death in 2011, Fielder-Civil has largely remained out of the spotlight.
However, now, in a rare interview, he is speaking out for the first time in years about his rocky but loving relationship with Winehouse, and why he feels he should not bear responsibility for her death.
Fielder-Civil said, “My stance now is that I know a lot of people, especially people who read the media 20 years ago, will have the idea that Amy’s demise is my responsibility.”
He further added, “As I have always said, I never shy away from any responsibility. If I have done something, I will put my hand into it.” we need to talk podcast.
Winehouse’s ex also said that although he has “made peace” with the fact that he “had a role” in the British star’s death, it is unfair to place the blame entirely on him.
He added, “Amy had her own agency. And not being disrespectful in any way by saying this, but Amy did what she wanted to do.”
Fielder-Civil concluded on her stance on Amy Winehouse’s death, “And even though the drinking was starting to hurt her, she still continued… She’s really a very strong woman.”
