Doja Cat explains her unusual way of handling the paparazzi.
In a recent interview with DiversityThe 30-year-old singer revealed that she sometimes “deliberately” wears “ugly” clothes while working.
The “Paint the Town Red” singer expressed her desire to go out in public like normal people, and to do so, she dresses “ugly” rather than asking the paparazzi to “shut down” or paying her to close a store.
“It bothers me a lot,” Doja told the outlet about not being able to shop like ordinary people.
“Would I go up to someone and say, ‘Stop filming me,’ and abuse them? No, I’m not going to do that,” she added.
“I don’t want to do that, I think I’d prefer to do it in a creative way.”
Describing her “creative methods”, she said, “Sometimes I deliberately try to look ugly.”
“I turn it into a game,” Doja said.
This came as he opened up about his mental health struggles after being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
“I learned from a very young age to pretend I like things, pretend I’m happy, pretend I don’t like the things I do, pretend everything is OK,” Doja Cat said in a video posted to her TikTok account in March. “I would make it through. And it took a toll on me, and I think it always does to people. I struggle with BPD now.”
I have been taking therapy for several years and I feel very relieved and proud of myself. I’ve made it this far, and I still make mistakes,” she said.
