The sound of explosions was heard in Dubai on Friday evening as tensions continued in the Middle East amid Operation Epic Fury. Social media users reported that explosions were heard in various areas of the city, including Business Bay and Jumeirah Village Circle.
Referring to the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr, one The social media user included a screenshot from his phone showing a public safety warning, which read: “Due to the current situation, potential missile threats, immediately seek a safe location in the nearest secure building, stay away from windows, doors and open areas. Wait for further instructions.”
Dubai confirmed that air defenses had to be activated, with the Dubai Media Office writing on Twitter: “Officials in Dubai confirm that the sounds heard in parts of the city were the result of successful air defense interception operations. Please rely on official sources for updates.”
The UAE’s National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority has also confirmed the threat. In a social media post, the agency wrote: “Air defense systems are currently responding to the missile threat. Please remain in a safe location and follow official channels for warnings and updates.”
