    which team's cup

It’s not even April yet, but it’s already been a big year for Cup of Joe. This month, we welcomed Janelle back from parental leave (and the wild birth of her third child!). And our amazing longtime contributor, Kelsey Miller, has officially joined the team as a senior editor. We bid a sweet farewell to Maureen after seven amazing years with us and our new Partnership Director is none other than my friend Alison Piepmeyer! Since we’ve got a new team full of familiar faces, we’d love to come behind the scenes and introduce ourselves…

    Joanna Goddard

    Joanna Goddard
    Founder and Editor

A former magazine writer, I started Cup of Joe in 2007 as a weekend hobby, but then grew it into a massive daily website featuring a wide variety of writers and photographers. I also launch in 2023 big saladOur weekly newsletter about style, design, and relationships, which is the #1 fashion/beauty publication on Substack. I live in Brooklyn with my two talkative boys.

Drink for breakfast: Homemade cinnamon tea; Or walking with your neighborhood dad friend to get coffee.
childhood nickname: My dad still calls me Fofans, inspired by that “Banana Fana Fo-Fana” song. What my brothers and sisters and cousins call me. Now whenever someone calls me “Joe”, I immediately feel closer to them.
Favorite after work activity: Hanging out with my two cheerful boys. The fifteen/teen years have been my favorite so far. Sure, they may be moody, but they also keep me laughing and watching dairy girlsShare smart observations about life, and still want conversation and cuddles while you sleep.
celebrity crush: andy samberg inside Palm Springs. I would happily get stuck in a time loop.
The book that changed my life: when i read The Catcher in the Rye In high school, I saw Holden Caulfield as a sexy bad boy. He grew up in Manhattan! He smoked! But when I read it again as a forty-year-old mother, my heart ached for that lost, lonely 16-year-old girl. I realized how much our perspectives can change based on our own experiences and life stages. I always try to keep that in mind.
