HOUSTON – One of President Donald Trump’s top energy advisers said Monday that the Trump administration has received no response to his call to increase oil production amid the war in Iran.
“They’re all on board,” Jarrod Agen, executive director of the White House National Energy Dominance Council, said at the Politico Pub at CERAWeek. “They want to increase production.”

Oil prices opened at $98 a barrel on Monday, but fell to $88 after President Donald Trump said the United States would halt “any and all military attacks against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure” for five days, but fell to $88 as the US and Iran engage in diplomatic talks.
Agen said the call for increased production has come up “in every conversation” at the annual energy conference in Houston and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
“The two areas where production could really increase would be in Alaska and in Venezuela,” Ajzen said. “We have not heard any response to the desire to produce more.”
Ajzen said he has been getting calls from European and Asian countries, such as Japan, asking if the U.S. could drill more to compensate for lost supply from the Gulf.
Agen stressed that the White House has been prepared from day one of the war to deal with the effects on oil markets.
“President Trump knows exactly what he’s doing,” he said. “He is adept at using energy as a leverage point in foreign policy.”
