Canadian comedian, actor and producer Howie Mandel has made a statement regarding his health and has credited an aerobic exercise program for helping him maintain his physique and stay fit even at the age of 70.
The Canadian comedian, actor and producer made the health-related confession during an appearance on Monday’s episode of stay with kelly and marOf.
It began with host Kelly Ripa expressing disbelief at her age as she and her husband and co-host Mark Consuelos congratulated her on the accomplishment.
“It doesn’t make any sense,” Ripa, 55, commented, to which Mandel further asked, “What do you mean it doesn’t make any sense?” Consuelos, 54, then explained that his wife said he looked “very good.”
“I look great?” Mandel repeated. “It doesn’t make any sense!” he said, and before the pair could elaborate further, Mandel interjected. “No, no, no. I don’t like it because it’s a warning, because you tell someone you’re 70, and they say, ‘You look great -‘”
Ripa then insisted that the intention behind the compliment was harmless, explaining that they were “not saying you look good at 70 (years old). Rather, “We’re saying you look great, and I can’t believe you’re 70.”
Mandel was still not convinced. He joked, “No, no. It’s like telling an idiot you’re smart.” “‘Oh, you look smart, you look smart,’ you see, no, I don’t look good.”
At one point, the comedian gave up and made light of the awkward situation. “Actually, now, I’ll be serious for a minute. I’m gorgeous!” Mandel said before receiving more recognition from the audience.
Consuelos then turned the conversation to the secret behind Mandel’s fitness. “What’s your workout these days? What are you doing for your health?” he asked.
Mandel said, “Well, your friend, (TV show host) Jerry O’Connell has me on the most ridiculous workout I’ve ever done in my life.”
“I swim. That’s what I do. So he bought me these swimming cables, which I tie around my ankles, and then attach them to whatever is on the side of the pool.”
“Then he gives me these frying pan paddles, and I float for an hour and go nowhere,” he explained, before admitting that he “gets so lost in it.”
Mandel didn’t stop there and revealed that he continues his workout regardless of the location.
“I take them everywhere and to hotels. Yes. I do it in a hotel, where the kids are scared because I have tied up. There are ropes there. I see parents keep people away with ropes,” he explained, before he even swam in the morning.
