Stephen Colbert is leaving CBS soon, but before his exit, he managed to get a job in the Tolkien universe as well.
Yep, the late-night host is set to dive into Middle-earth, in a shocking way, stepping into the development of a Lord of the Rings movie.
If this is the twist no one saw coming, Colbert brings another twist, namely, his son will also be starring alongside him in the film.
Warner Bros. dropped a bombshell after sharing the official first look at Harry Potter, sending fans into a frenzy.
Peter Jackson, the creator of the universe, revealed Colbert with an update on the upcoming Hunt for Gollum before teasing a “very special companion” who will be joining the next chapter.
The Late Show host then reveals himself, offering an update on the upcoming Gollum film following The Lord of the Rings: Shadows of the Past.
As a staunch fan of the Tolkien novels, Colbert indicated that the film would focus on parts of The Fellowship of the Ring that were not shown in the 2001 film.
“But the thing I found myself reading over and over again was the first six chapters of[‘The Fellowship of the Ring’]which you never get to develop as the first movie does.”
“It basically ranges from the chapters ‘Three is Company’ (Chapter III) to ‘Fog on the Barrow-Downs’ (Chapter VIII).”
“And I thought, ‘Oh, wait, maybe that could be its own story that could fit into the bigger story. Can we create something that is completely faithful to the books and also completely faithful to the movies that you guys have already made?'”
Notably, this isn’t the first time Colbert has ventured into the Middle-earth universe. He had a cameo in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and directed Darylgorn, a short film inspired by Tolkien’s work.
