Former Manchester United footballer Alejandro Garnacho has been convicted of speeding away from the club’s training ground just days before leaving the club.
The 21-year-old Argentinian was caught driving a powerful Audi at 50mph in a 40mph zone near his old side’s Carrington facility in Greater Manchester on August 26 last year.
Four days later he left the Red Devils for Chelsea in a £40m deal.
Garnacho, through lawyers, pleaded guilty to speeding at Liverpool Magistrates Court and apologised.
His representatives said he was “embarrassed” by the incident. A separate charge of failing to respond to a police letter regarding a speeding offense was dropped due to the guilty plea.
Garnacho was fined £660. He was also ordered to pay £120 court costs and a £264 victim surcharge.
Three penalty points were issued on his licence.
